| Dating back to 1512, Cefn-y-Dre, set in one and a half acres of garden, is listed as one of Pembrokeshire's Historic Homes. Though in open countryside alongside a dairy farm, it is little more than one mile from Fishguard town centre and two miles from the ferry terminal, with its twice daily sailings to Ireland.
The house has strong links to the family of Lloyd George and on display are photographs and newspaper cuttings, dating back to 1910, illustrating his connections. Rumour has it that one of his favourite rooms in the house was what is now the double room overlooking the garden.
The bedrooms are furnished to a superior quality and contain Hospitality Trays providing a selection of teas and coffees together with FRESH milk and home-made cake or biscuits. Your television comes complete with DVD player and a small selection of DVD's are available for use by guests. Hairdryers are also provided.
Dining becomes an experience with Cefn-y-Dre having been awarded certification under the Pembrokeshire Produce Mark scheme with only the best of local ingredients being used when preparing meals. All eggs used are organic and produced just a few miles away, while bacon, sausage and cuts of meat, all of which can be traced to the farm of origin, are supplied by an award winning local butcher. Butter and cream is collected direct from a farm dairy at Bethesda while jams and preserves are produced on the headland looking out over the Irish Sea. Additionally, in season, all vegetables and salads used are provided from the Cefn-y-Dre kitchen garden, thus ensuring that everything used is Fresh, Top Quality and Local! Forget food miles - here things are measured in yards!
Dinner can be provided if booked in advance, and being licensed, you can choose from a selection of beers, wines or champagnes at very reasonable prices.
A newly decorated lounge, without television and looking across the garden, is always available for you to enjoy the tranquility of Cefn-y-Dre while feeling the 500 years of history all around you. A vast selection of books are available for you to browse; principal subjects being Pembrokeshire, Wales and Gardening. Large scale maps are provided on loan for those who wish to explore off the beaten track.
Cefn-y-Dre has been well summed up in its recommendation from the current edition of The Rough Guide to Walesı with two very simple words: "Understated elegance."
